What is The Root Method™?
The Root Method™ is a three-step, non-invasive, cosmetic hair rejuvenation program for the appearance of thinning hair, offered only at The Hair Lab in Lakeway, Texas. It starts with a scalp analysis. Each session combines the FDA-cleared FoLix™ laser, a topical cosmetic serum, and the FDA-registered Class I Alma TED™ system. It is 3 sessions, 4 weeks apart, about 90 minutes each. Individual results vary.
What are the three steps?
The program starts with a scalp analysis on the Canfield VEOS HairMetrix system, which photographs and measures the appearance of your hair and scalp. Then each session follows the same order.
- FoLix™ laser by Lumenis. A non-ablative fractional laser with a wavelength of 1565 nm. It creates microscopic heat zones beneath the surface while the outer layer of skin stays intact. It is FDA-cleared through 510(k) for improving the appearance of scalp hair in adult males and females with Fitzpatrick skin types I to IV.
- The Hair Lab Proprietary Hair Serum. A topical cosmetic serum applied right after the laser. The Hair Lab holds an ownership position in the laboratory behind it. It is neither FDA-cleared nor FDA-approved.
- Alma TED™ (Trans Epidermal Delivery). Low-frequency acoustic sound waves and air pressure temporarily increase absorption through the skin, so Alma's own TED+ Serum reaches the scalp without needles or incisions. It feels like a gentle, warm scalp massage. The Alma TED system is an FDA-registered Class I device and is not 510(k)-cleared.
The Root Method™ as a whole is not FDA-cleared. Clearance and registration apply to individual devices only. See what FDA cleared, registered and approved mean.
How long does The Root Method™ take?
Three sessions, four weeks apart, about 90 minutes each. No needles. No downtime. You can return to your normal day right after each session.
Who looks into The Root Method™?
It is for people who notice thinning hair, excess shedding, or a hairline that has moved, and who want a cosmetic option without surgery, needles or pills. The FoLix™ clearance covers adults with Fitzpatrick skin types I to IV.
If you have a medical concern about your hair or scalp, please consult a licensed physician.
What The Root Method™ is not
- Not a medical treatment for hair loss, alopecia, or any other condition.
- Not surgery. There are no needles, incisions or pills.
- Not FDA-cleared as a program. Of the three steps, only the FoLix™ laser is FDA-cleared.
- Not a promise. Individual results vary and are not guaranteed.
What results can I expect?
Individual results vary and are not guaranteed. Outcomes depend on many biological, genetic, hormonal and lifestyle factors. Your scalp analysis captures the same zones the same way each time, so any change in the appearance of your hair and scalp is documented rather than taken on faith.
Is there at-home care?
Yes, optional, and not part of the three steps:
- Nutrafol™ supplements, a physician-formulated nutritional supplement. Its statements have not been evaluated by the FDA.
- Provider-prescribed compounded topicals, formulated individually by licensed providers. They are not FDA-evaluated products.
- Revian RED, an at-home LED cap that is FDA-cleared through 510(k), K173729.
What does The Root Method™ cost, and can I pay over time?
As of October 2026, the founding client rate is $2,250 for the three session program, for the first 25 clients. The regular rate after that is $4,500.
Payment plans are available through Cherry. See payment plans.

Questions about The Root Method™
Is The Root Method™ FDA approved?
No. The Root Method™ is not FDA approved, and the program as a whole is not FDA-cleared. The FoLix™ laser in Step 1 is FDA-cleared through 510(k). The Alma TED™ system in Step 3 is an FDA-registered Class I device. The serum in Step 2 is a cosmetic.
Is The Root Method™ a medical treatment?
No. It is a cosmetic aesthetic service for the appearance of hair and scalp, and The Root & Scalp Spa is not a medical practice. If you have a medical concern about your hair or scalp, please consult a licensed physician.
Does the FoLix laser have side effects?
It can. Lumenis, the maker of FoLix™, states that treatment may cause redness, swelling, scarring, damage to natural skin texture (such as blisters), fragile skin, burns, hair shedding, itching, and pigmentation change, and that FoLix is not suitable for everyone. Lumenis also states there is no downtime. If you have a medical concern about your hair or scalp, please consult a licensed physician.
How is the appearance of my hair and scalp tracked during The Root Method™?
With the scalp analysis, which photographs the same zones the same way each time and measures values such as follicle count per cm² and average hair width. Individual results vary and are not guaranteed.
