Head spa
What is a head spa?
A head spa is a scalp care ritual that works like a facial for your scalp: cleansing, exfoliation, steam, and an extended massage of the scalp, neck, and shoulders. It starts from a simple idea: your scalp is skin, with pores, oil, a barrier, and a microbiome. At The Root & Scalp Spa in Lakeway, Texas, near Austin, each head spa ritual is 60 or 90 minutes and begins with a scalp analysis on screen.
What happens during a head spa at The Root & Scalp Spa?
A head spa at The Root & Scalp Spa starts with a scalp analysis on screen and a short conversation about what you want from the visit. You then stay fully reclined on a heated, custom head spa bed in a private room for deep botanical cleansing, exfoliation, steam, and an extended pressure-point massage across the scalp, neck, and shoulders. At the end, a second analysis shows your scalp again, and you leave with a recommendation for when to come back.
How much does a head spa cost?
At The Root & Scalp Spa in Lakeway, a 60 minute head spa ritual is $165 and a 90 minute ritual is $225, whichever of the six rituals you choose. Extension-safe care adds $30. Bundles lower the price per session: six sessions for the price of five ($825 for 60 minutes, $1,125 for 90 minutes) or three sessions at 15% off ($420.75 for 60 minutes, $573.75 for 90 minutes), usable across any ritual.
Which head spa ritual should I choose?
The Root & Scalp Spa offers six head spa rituals, each 60 or 90 minutes: Airplane Mode, for the always-on mind; Damage Control, for color-tired, over-processed hair; The Root Ritual, for thinning or shedding hair at any age; Second Spring, for women navigating postpartum, perimenopause, and menopause; The Modern Man, for men; and The Gentle Return, for sensitive scalps. Pick the one closest to what brought you in, and your scalp analysis guides which botanicals are used. If you have a medical concern about your hair or scalp, please consult a licensed physician.
Can I get a head spa if I have hair extensions?
Yes. Every head spa ritual at The Root & Scalp Spa in Lakeway can be tailored with gentle, extension-safe care. Simply add $30 to any ritual.
Is there a head spa for men?
Yes. The Modern Man, also called The Gentleman's Reset, is the head spa ritual at The Root & Scalp Spa made for men: a deep scalp cleanse, a Sebum Balance Hair Bath for a scalp that runs oily by afternoon, and a firm scalp, neck, and shoulder massage that eases desk-and-drive tension. It finishes clean and matte, and it is $165 for 60 minutes or $225 for 90 minutes.
Can I get a head spa if my scalp is sensitive?
Yes. The Gentle Return is the head spa ritual at The Root & Scalp Spa made for sensitive scalps, through chemotherapy and beyond. Every step is feather-light, from the mildest cleanse with the fragrance-calm Soothing Hair Bath to a slow, unhurried scalp massage, and it is tailored to where you are in your journey. If you have a medical concern about your hair or scalp, please consult a licensed physician.
What should I do before and after a head spa?
Before a head spa at The Root & Scalp Spa, arrive with your hair down and detangled, and arrive early if you want to sit in the quiet first. Afterward, your hair is left clean and wet, and the spa recommends air-drying so your scalp can fully benefit from the exfoliation and treatment. Blow dryers and brushes are on hand if you want a quick style before you head out.
How often should I get a head spa?
At The Root & Scalp Spa in Lakeway, you get a recommendation for when to come back at the end of each head spa ritual, after a second scalp analysis. If you want to make the ritual a routine, prepaid bundles of three or six sessions can be used across any ritual.
What products are used in the head spa?
The Root & Scalp Spa uses Oway® products in its head spa rituals. Oway grows botanicals such as lavender, sage, rosemary, and thyme biodynamically on Ortofficina, an estate in the hills of Bologna, Italy, with no pesticides, herbicides, or synthetic fertilizers. The products come in glass and aluminum with no synthetic fragrance, and take-home Oway care is chosen from your scalp analysis.
Scalp analysis
What is a scalp analysis?
A scalp analysis is a magnified look at your scalp, on screen, that photographs and measures the appearance of your hair and scalp so it can be documented visit by visit. At The Root & Scalp Spa in Lakeway, it uses the Canfield VEOS HairMetrix system, takes about four minutes, and begins every head spa ritual. It is also the first step at The Hair Lab, before The Root Method™.
What does the scalp analysis measure?
The scalp analysis at The Root & Scalp Spa captures three zones of the scalp: temporal (the sides), vertex (the top), and occipital (the back). In each zone it reports four measures: follicle count per cm², average hairs per follicular unit, average hair width in micrometers (µm), and the ratio of terminal hairs (thicker, longer hairs) to vellus hairs (fine, thin hairs). In a head spa, the reading also looks at oil and hydration balance, buildup along the root line, and the condition of the skin.
Is the scalp analysis a medical exam?
No. The scalp analysis at The Root & Scalp Spa is a cosmetic assessment, not a diagnostic tool, and it is not used to identify or assess any medical condition. It photographs and measures the appearance of hair and scalp for documentation. If you have a medical concern about your hair or scalp, please consult a licensed physician.
Do I get my scalp analysis photos?
Yes. Every head spa ritual at The Root & Scalp Spa includes a post treatment scalp photo for your records, and most guests ask the team to send them their photos. Images are captured and stored with written client consent.
The Hair Lab and The Root Method
What is The Root Method™?
The Root Method™ is a three-step, non-invasive, cosmetic aesthetic hair rejuvenation protocol offered exclusively at The Hair Lab at The Root & Scalp Spa in Lakeway, Texas. It combines the FoLix™ laser, The Hair Lab Proprietary Hair Serum, and the Alma TED™ System in a set order. The program is 3 sessions, 4 weeks apart, 90 minutes each, with no needles and no downtime.
What are the three steps of The Root Method™?
After a scalp analysis, The Root Method™ follows three steps in order. Step 1 is the FoLix™ laser by Lumenis, an FDA-cleared, non-ablative fractional laser. Step 2 is The Hair Lab Proprietary Hair Serum, a topical cosmetic serum applied right after the laser. Step 3 is the Alma TED™ System, an FDA-registered Class I device that uses low-frequency acoustic sound waves and air pressure so the manufacturer's TED+ Serum can reach the scalp without needles.
Does The Root Method™ hurt?
Lumenis, the maker of the FoLix™ laser used in Step 1 of The Root Method™ at The Root & Scalp Spa, describes minimal discomfort, typically only a mild warming or tingling sensation, and says slight redness may occur and typically resolves within 24 hours. The Alma TED™ step feels like a gentle, warm scalp massage. There are no needles and no downtime, and you can return to your normal day immediately after each session.
Is The Root Method™ FDA approved?
No. The Root Method™ as a whole is not FDA-cleared or FDA-approved; clearance and registration apply to individual devices only. Step 1, the FoLix™ laser by Lumenis, is FDA-cleared through the 510(k) pathway for improving the appearance of scalp hair in adult males and females with Fitzpatrick skin types I to IV. Step 3, the Alma TED™ System, is an FDA-registered Class I device that is not FDA-cleared or FDA-approved, and the Step 2 serum is a topical cosmetic that is neither FDA-cleared nor FDA-approved.
Is Alma TED™ FDA approved?
No. The Alma TED™ System, used in Step 3 of The Root Method™ at The Root & Scalp Spa, is an FDA-registered Class I device; it is not FDA-cleared and not FDA-approved. The FDA notes that Class I devices are subject to general controls only, that most are exempt from premarket notification, and that registering or listing a device does not denote approval.
Who is The Root Method™ for?
The Root Method™ is for men and women who want to improve the appearance of thinning hair, shedding, or a hairline that has moved. The Hair Lab at The Root & Scalp Spa works with concerns such as thinning hair, excess shedding, hormonal changes, and postpartum or GLP-1 shedding. The FoLix™ laser in Step 1 is FDA-cleared for adults with Fitzpatrick skin types I to IV (a scale based on how easily skin burns or tans in the sun), and the Lakeway team can talk through whether the protocol fits you. If you have a medical concern about your hair or scalp, please consult a licensed physician.
What results can I expect from The Root Method™?
Individual results from The Root Method™ vary and are not guaranteed; outcomes depend on biological, genetic, hormonal, and lifestyle factors. The protocol is cosmetic: it is designed around the appearance of your hair, and it is not a medical treatment for any condition. At The Root & Scalp Spa, your scalp analysis measures the appearance of your hair and scalp before the protocol begins, so later visits can be compared with your starting point.
How much does The Root Method™ cost?
As of October 2026, The Root Method™ at The Hair Lab in Lakeway is $2,250 for the full three session program at the founding client rate, which is offered to the first 25 clients. After that, the regular rate is $4,500. Payment plans are available through Cherry.

Yes. The Root & Scalp Spa offers flexible monthly payment plans through Cherry, including for The Root Method™, so you can begin now and pay over time. See how a plan works on the payment plans page.
Is there at-home care that goes with The Root Method™?
Yes, and all of it is optional. The Hair Lab at The Root & Scalp Spa offers Nutrafol™ supplements and the Revian RED at-home LED cap, which is FDA-cleared (510(k) K173729). Where offered, provider-prescribed compounded topicals are formulated individually by licensed providers. None of these are part of The Root Method™ sessions themselves.
How do I get started with The Root Method™?
Start with the short Hair Lab questionnaire: two questions, then your first name, phone, and email. A member of The Root & Scalp Spa's Lakeway team will reach out within one business day to understand your goals and explain your options, with no commitment and no pressure. If you go ahead, a scalp analysis comes first.
