What to expect at your first head spa visit
Arrive with your hair down and detangled, and a little early if you want quiet time first. Your ritual begins with a scalp analysis on screen, then 60 or 90 minutes fully reclined on a heated bed in a private room. It ends with a second analysis and a scalp photo for your records. Your hair is left clean and wet, and air-drying is recommended.
How do I prepare for my first head spa?
- Book online. If you wear extensions, add extension-safe care for $30.
- Arrive with your hair down and detangled.
- Arrive early if you want to sit in the quiet first. Most guests do.
- Plan for wet hair afterward. Air-drying is recommended.
Which ritual should I book first?
Choose the ritual closest to why you are coming in, such as Airplane Mode for screen tension or The Gentle Return for a sensitive scalp. All six cost the same: $165 for 60 minutes or $225 for 90 minutes.
What happens at the start?
Every ritual begins with a magnified scalp analysis on screen, together, and a short conversation about what you want from the hour. The analysis takes about four minutes. It looks at follicle density and distribution, oil and hydration balance, buildup along the root line, and the condition of the skin. Your botanicals are then chosen from what the analysis shows, not from a menu.
Your report shows three zones (temporal, vertex and occipital), captured the same way every visit so each session can be set beside the last.
What happens during the ritual?
You stay fully reclined for the entire ritual on a heated head spa bed built to the spa's own specification, with your head supported and the basin built in. Full recline spreads your weight, so there is no pressure on your neck or lower back, and the bed gives warmth and gentle massage beneath you. The room is private and dimly lit, and phones are put away.
- A deep botanical cleanse and scalp exfoliation with biodynamic Oway® products, lifting product, sebum and mineral residue from the root line.
- Steam, then masks or leave-in care chosen for your hair, depending on the ritual.
- An extended pressure-point massage across your scalp, neck and shoulders.
What happens after a head spa?
- A second scalp analysis on screen, so you can compare it with the first.
- A post treatment scalp photo for your records.
- Something cold to drink, and a recommendation for when to come back.
- Your hair is left clean and wet. The spa recommends air-drying so your scalp can fully benefit from the exfoliation.
- Blow dryers and brushes are on hand if you want a quick style before you head out.
- Take-home care is optional. The retail wall carries Oway® products chosen from your scalp analysis.
Is a head spa a medical appointment?
No. A head spa is cosmetic care. The scalp analysis photographs and measures the appearance of your hair and scalp. It is not used to identify or assess any medical condition, and images are captured and stored with your written consent.
If you have a medical concern about your hair or scalp, please consult a licensed physician.
Common questions about a first head spa visit
Will my hair be dry when I leave a head spa?
No. At The Root & Scalp Spa your hair is left clean and wet. Air-drying is recommended, and blow dryers and brushes are available if you want a quick style before you leave.
How long does the scalp analysis take?
About four minutes at The Root & Scalp Spa. It happens on screen at the start of every ritual and again at the end. It is a cosmetic assessment of the appearance of your hair and scalp, not a medical exam.
Do I get to keep my scalp photos?
Yes. Every ritual at The Root & Scalp Spa includes a post treatment scalp photo for your records. Images are captured and stored with written client consent.
How often should I get a head spa?
At The Root & Scalp Spa, you get a recommendation for when to come back at the end of each ritual. If you plan to make it a routine, bundles of three or six sessions lower the price per session.
